Ms. Lettie Longwe


Ms. Lettie Longwe began her professional working career in 1986 in the UN. She has worked in various civil society organizations in the fields of education, development work, information, finance, communications and media. Her fields of expertise include: media, gender, financial management, and project management. She has written extensively as a media practitioner, educator and gender activist. She sits on the coordinating committee for Media for Sustainable Development; a project looking into the strategic use and development of sustainable content in media in Africa and Central America, and the Know-How Committee. She is currently working as a Programs Director at AMARC Africa where she is also responsible for the regional gender program. At present, Lettie is a member of the Steering Committee and Finance Sub-Committee of the GC. She was a part of the WSIS GC fundraising committee and Leadership Team from April – October 2003, and has served the WSIS GC as Chairperson from July 2004. Her areas of interest in WSIS Gender Caucus are: gender and ICTs (universal access, content, connection and capability), lobbying and advocacy at national, regional (Africa region) and global levels, communication and outreach, and fundraising.
