Magaly Pazello


Magaly Pazello, from Brazil, Masters in Literature, affiliated with DAWN Network, has been working on gender and globalization issues. Her current focus also includes the information society field and gender justice. She holds seven years of work experience in gender activism and advocacy, with global networks, in special with DAWN Network. She also has extensive experience in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights with DAWN research coordination on this field. She is a member of Women’s Networking Support Program of APC. Her involvement and participation in the WSIS process significantly increased after the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Ministerial Preparatory Conference for the World Summit on the Information Society (Ba´varo, Dominican Republic, January 29-31, 2003). She was invited to attend this conference, and speak as a panellist on the session titled "Human Capitol and the Information Society", where she presented the paper: "Algunos apuntes hacia la perspectiva de ge´nero en la sociedad de informacio´n" (Some notes towards the gender perspective in the information society) (www.indotel.org.do/wsis/bavaro_magaly.doc). Some of her other relevant engagements have been: a) promote meetings to discuss the WSIS among women’s organizations and launch a gender forum on WSIS in Brazil; b) invitation from the Brazilian government to join its working group on WSIS and also to make part in the official delegation in the Geneva Summit; c) participation in international and national meetings as panellist to speak on the WSIS process from the gender perspective; and, d) research in gender and ICTs in Brazil.
