SourcebookThe Sourcebook, dated July 8th 2003, on National Gender WSIS Programmes provides an overview of the World Summit on the Information Society, outlines the case for gender equality in the Information Society, and provides some background on UN processes. It also outlines the steps that might be involved in a national gender programme with tips, strategies, and resources to help national gender equality advocates get organized.
The Sourcebook is complemented by summaries of ongoing activities in various countries. These national summaries form an important part of the set of learning tools for novice and seasoned local advocates alike.
Contributions from additional countries are being collected and it is hoped that, by the 2003 Summit, plans for national gender programmes will be available for a significant number of countries participating in the WSIS. The most effective programme plans will be featured on the Gender Caucus website to provide a pool of examples and ideas for all national level organizers. As one of the next steps in the development of national gender programmes, the Gender Caucus (GC) will assist in organizing training and capacity building on the regional and national level. Relevant materials and document templates (such as project proposal templates) will be provided to enable efficient and timely programme development in individual countries. An offer to submit the best proposals to potential funders who may be able to provide support (overall, or for specific initiatives in specific countries) will be offered to encourage a high quality and quantity of reports of planned and ongoing activities from each country.
